Fake Shopify or Etsy seller account suspended phishing — fraudulent email impersonating Shopify, Etsy, or a generic merchant platform claiming the recipient's seller account has been suspended, restricted, placed on hold, or flagged for a policy violation — directing them to click a link to appeal, verify their identity, or provide bank routing numbers and tax information to reactivate their store — a credential-harvesting fraud targeting online sellers dependent on marketplace income

Phishing emails impersonating Shopify, Etsy, or generic merchant platform support — claiming the recipient's seller account has been suspended, restricted, placed on hold, or flagged for a policy violation — then directing them to click a link to appeal, verify their identity, or provide bank routing numbers, tax information (EIN/SSN), or business details to reactivate their store. These attacks exploit the extreme leverage attackers have over sellers who depend on marketplace income. Key facts: (1) E-commerce seller account phishing surged alongside the rise of Shopify and Etsy seller populations — Shopify reached 2.5M active merchants in 2023; with 40% of small business revenue flowing through a single marketplace, a suspension threat creates near-panic and dramatically lowers victims' guard; (2) The bank routing + EIN/tax information harvested enables immediate business bank account takeover, fraudulent wire transfers, and business identity theft (filing fraudulent tax returns using the business EIN); Shopify payouts are frequently targeted because merchants receive large weekly payouts; (3) Sophisticated variants use lookalike domains (shop1fy-support.com, etsyseller-help.com) and clone the exact visual design of Shopify's or Etsy's legitimate account suspension emails; timing often targets Fridays when support teams are less available; (4) Legitimate Shopify and Etsy account actions are always accessible through the official dashboard at shopify.com/admin and etsy.com/your/account — neither platform requests bank routing numbers or SSN via email as part of an account restoration process. Warning signs: non-shopify.com/etsy.com domain, account suspended + verify bank routing/tax info via link, urgency framing with threat of permanent closure.
