IRS tax phone scam — back taxes owed + call to avoid arrest / gift-card payment / asset seizure threat
irs-tax-phone-scam
What this tier means
High-confidence threat indicator — phishing, impersonation, BEC, or scam pattern. Strong contributor to the trash decision.
How Gorganizer detects this
Body contains an IRS/tax-authority debt claim — "you owe back taxes", "your tax account is delinquent", "you are under investigation for tax evasion" — AND a threat or payment tactic that the real IRS explicitly states it never uses: a call-back demand to avoid arrest or criminal charges, an arrest/warrant threat for unpaid tax debt, a demand to pay IRS debt via gift cards, Bitcoin, or wire transfer, a bank-account-seizure/wage-garnishment threat combined with an immediate payment demand, or a "do not ignore / failure to respond = arrest" script. The IRS only contacts taxpayers by postal mail first and never demands immediate payment by phone or email, accepts gift cards or cryptocurrency, or threatens immediate arrest. This signal is distinct from tax-authority-phishing (which catches the "click here to claim your refund" credential-harvest variant) — this one covers the far more common robocall-crossover "call or be arrested" tax-debt scam family.
False-positive guard
Every signal in Gorganizer feeds a multi-module score — never a sole verdict. This is a threat-tier signal — it adds a strong contribution to the trash score. The full pipeline still requires convergence across multiple modules + a margin over the safety floor before deletion happens, and Gmail's trash (30-day recovery) is always used — never permanent delete.
About the scoring engine
Gorganizer's scoring engine emits 2,143+ signals across six modules — headers, sender, subject, body, attachments, and structural metadata. Every email is scored by every module independently; the final verdict requires multiple modules to agree and the trash score to beat the safety floor by a margin.
Sacred safety guards — never delete starred emails, replies, calendar invites, receipts/invoices, or attachments — apply unconditionally regardless of any signal.
